Reported at michaelwest.com.au: Treasurer Jim Chalmers has advocated for a tariff exemption on Australian steel and aluminium imports during discussions with US officials in Washington, as President Donald Trump prepares to announce a decision on upcoming tariffs.

Chalmers emphasised the strength of the economic partnership between Australia and the US and expressed that the exemption would benefit both nations.

The Australian government is also contemplating local steel quotas in response to concerns about the influx of inexpensive Chinese steel following the American tariffs.
