This decision follows a landmark High Court ruling that deemed indefinite immigration detention unlawful, leading to the release of over 200 non-citizens into the community.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke stated that those who have shown “appalling character” by committing crimes should have their visas cancelled and leave the country.
