Reported at www.sbs.com.au: The Australian federal government has passed new laws imposing mandatory minimum sentences for hate speech and terrorism offences, despite the Labor Party’s previous opposition to mandatory sentencing within its platform.

The legislation includes a minimum of six years for terror offences, three years for financing terrorism, and 12 months for displaying Nazi symbols, following pressure to address rising antisemitism.
