Labor and Coalition Electoral Reform deal

Reported at australiainstitute.org.au: Liberal Senator Jane Hume announced a deal between the Coalition and the Albanese Labor Government that resulted in significant changes to electoral laws, which included raising the disclosure threshold for lobbyist payments from $1,000 to $5,000 and increasing the donation cap from $20,000 to $50,000.

The rushed legislative process will not take effect until after the next election in 2028, allowing potential future parliamentary review.
