Reported at www.sbs.com.au: Australia’s federal government has passed new legislation that implements mandatory minimum sentences for terrorism and hate crime offences, including a one-year sentence for displaying Nazi symbols.

Israel has praised the legislation in light of rising antisemitism, however critics argue that the mandatory sentencing undermines judicial independence and could disproportionately impact marginalized groups.
